I pitched this cover story idea to the editor after becoming increasingly disgruntled with Hollywood recycling movie ideas and constantly producing sequel after sequel. A fan of the original Paul Verhoven, Peter Weller movie, I wanted to focus the GW story hook around the upcoming remake and re-release of Robocop. Visual execution was essential to bring the feature together. Movie franchise toys and figurines were used to represent each movie depicted, due for either remake, re-release or reboot. The clever reincarnation of 'Murphy' into Robocop, in both the movie and the remake, was represented here with the figurine climbing out of the recycling box on the contents page and walking across the opening DPS of the feature. With stylistic control of each shot, I insisted that there was no retouching of figurines to acknowledge the traditional art of movie-making without digital alteration and CGI.

To celebrate Germanwings airlines' 10th birthday, GW Magazines showcased the ten most popular destinations they flew to. Visual representation presented suggestions for a gift, something typical of the destination, such as a giant Swatch watch from Zurich and a Barcelona football representing the world-famous football team. My biggest challenge was Berlin. I wanted to expand on Berlin street art, often applied to rough facades, rusty gates and the more difficult conditions for creation, using spray paint and a stencil as a medium. Vintage, reclaimed bricks, scoured from the skips of northeast London, were cleaned and cemented together to form a brick wall – my canvas. Inspired by the style of German graffiti artist XOOOOX, I designed, illustrated and cut out a multi-tier spray stencil to create my homage to street art and birthdays; girl holding a piece of birthday cake.

GW Bowie in Berlin

An essay on Bowie's creatively brilliant Berlin years was chosen to feature in GW Magazine to highlight Berlin, one of Germanwings airlines' three hubs, as a destination. The piece, written by Dave Rimmer (Berlin-based former music journalist: The Face, Smash Hits), is 1,200 of the most informative and insightful words on Bowie you're likely to read. Based on a publicity shot from 1976, the opening double-page spread showcases a bespoke spray paint stencil portrait, drawn and cut by myself.
